How parents can help optimize their child’s results and performance

Hello everyone! Coach Choi here.

I wanted to take some time to shout out two of our athletes, explain why they’ve been succeeding the past few months, and explain how parents can help with their children’s training results and performance on and off the field or court!

Recently, we posted two athletes on our Instagram, Jayden and Sean, who both have been building more muscle, getting stronger, and faster relative to their initial assessment results.

One of the reasons for their success is their effort and consistency during training sessions. They push themselves; they make sure they’re moving with good form, and they make every effort to attend all of their sessions.

The second reason is what they’re doing outside of training, which is where parents can step in and help out!

In order to improve body composition and athletic performance, nutrition and lifestyle factors play huge roles. Sean and Jayden have been making sure to keep their nutrition in check, such as consuming more total calories and increasing protein intake to maximize muscle growth.

As their coaches, we’re here to educate them on the “what’s,” “why’s,” and “how’s” of nutrition. However, we are limited when it comes to actually feeding them.

If you’re a parent of an athlete and you cook or provide food for them, being more intentional about what you’re feeding them can really accelerate their results and improve their long-term health.

Yes, we expect responsibility from the athletes themselves to make better choices, however, the access that parents can provide to nutritious choices can make a huge difference.

With that being said, a few simple tips are:

  1. Making sure all meals are balanced with adequate servings of protein, carbohydrates, and healthy fats. As well as consuming enough veggies/fruits.

  2. Making sure they’re eating enough to fuel muscle growth and weight gain.

If you ever have any questions on this, do not hesitate to ask us! We’re all happy to help and we also have a nutritionist on staff who can provide more in depth information and guidance, starting with a complimentary nutritional consultation.

We are very grateful to the supportive parents of the athletes of Pursuit and allowing us to have the opportunity to train together!
